NEW DELHI: Crime against children has yet again gained prominence in the city as two children were found raped by their relatives.
In the first incident, a three-year-old girl was raped by her relative after her parents dropped her off at his place when they went out for some work. In the second case, a man was arrested for raping his 10-year-old sister-in-law for a month.
The first incident was reported at 2am on Tuesday. The girl told the police that the man raped and threatened to harm her if she told anyone about the incident. The 25-year-old accused is unmarried and stayed alone in his rented flat. He regularly visited the girl's house to play with her. Due to this, her parents were comfortable in leaving their daughter in his custody.
When her parents came to the accused's house to pick up their daughter, they saw her lying naked beside the sofa bleeding from her private parts. They rushed her to a nearby hospital and doctors informed the police.
"The accused fled from his house after committing the crime. We are raiding his possible hideouts," said a senior police officer. A case under IPC Section 376 (rape) and POCSO Act has been registered at Govindpuri police station.
In the second case reported from northwest Delhi's Bharat Nagar, the accused, Nanak, had rented out the ground floor of his house to the girl's family six months ago and lived on the first floor. He used to rape the girl while her parents were away.
The family came to know of the incident on Monday when the girl started crying when her mother was bathing her. The 10-year-old said that Nanak had been raping her for the past month and used to beat her up if she resisted his attempts. To keep the crime under wraps, he had threated to harm her.
The girl's father is a contract labourer and her mother a housewife. When her mother used to go out, Nanak would come down and ask the girl's siblings to go out and play. He then used to rape her.
A case has been registered at Bharat Nagar police station under IPC Section 376 (rape) and POCSO Act. Police raided Nanak's house and arrested him.
