NEW DELHI: A three-year-old girl was raped repeatedly over the past week by her 60-year-old neighbour in southeast Delhi's Amar Colony. The girl's mother came to know of the rape on Wednesday and lodged a case against the accused, who was arrested late at night.
The girl's father works at a mass communication institute. Both the victim's family and the accused live in the same building as tenants. On Wednesday morning, the girl complained of pain in her private parts.
She told her mother that the "uncle" on the second floor called her to his house and sexually abused her.
"The girl's mother then informed her husband and the couple approached the police. A medical examination confirmed that the child was raped multiple times.
An FIR under IPC Section 376 and POCSO Act was lodged at Amar Colony police station. The accused was arrested from his house," said a senior police officer.
The girl, in her statement to the police, said that the elderly man used to lure her to his room by promising her sweets and chips and sexually abuse her.
"The girl will soon be counselled. We are now questioning the accused to know since when he had been raping the young girl," said the police officer.
