AHMEDABAD: It was a nightmare for the 14-year-old girl from Guptanagar when she was taken to a secluded place near Dholka on November 14. Forced into the flesh trade, she was told she would have to sleep with one customer. To her horror, she was raped again and again as the middleman forced eight men on her.
Cops detained some of the suspects late in the night.
"The girl, in her statement, said that one person after another kept raping her even as she cried of exhaustion and excruciating pain from the repeated sex acts. The girl, who has studied up to class VI when they were in Delhi, has also said that the eight accused were four students of a private university, the owner of an eatery near Dholka and three of his friends," said an investigator.
For the girl, the harsh realities of life stared at her much before her coming of age. "She says that her father had tried to rape her once when they were in Jaipur. Her stepmother was out of the prostitution business in Delhi and there was trouble in running the house. The girl's father also has a one-year-old boy. She was first raped by the landlord of the house where they were living as tenants in Jaipur," he said.
Investigators said that the family came to Ahmedabad from Jaipur some two months ago through common contacts and had almost immediately pushed her into prostitution to run the house. One of those named in the complaint as a middleman got released from Sabarmati jail in May after completing his term for a similar offence. Her father rarely came into picture as the girl was sent with the middlemen to various locations.
"Even before the incident, she had visited several men in Ahmedabad. Thus, she is very bitter about her parents and the first thing she told us after the rescue was - she did not want to go back to that home. She asked police to make them the first accused in the case. At the moment, we are trying to establish the identity of the eight persons who raped her on November 14," said an investigator.
Police said the middleman and others related to the overall case are also being probed. They suspect the use of psychotropic substances by the accused. "We are in the process of ascertaining the course of events and what the girl faced in the last 10 days," said an official.
Vidhi Chaudhari, DCP Zone VII, told mediapersons that several teams have been formed to look at various aspects of the case and nab the accused.
