KOLLAM: The Cherupulassery police have launched an investigation after an 18-year-old lodged a complaint on Wednesday, saying she was gang-raped by her lover and his friends at an isolated place here on October 26.
The teenager narrated the alleged trauma she had undergone after police picked her up based on her parents' complaint that their daughter had gone missing.
The girl, hailing from Cherupulassery in Palakkad, reportedly told police that she had been in a relationship with her neighbour, Rajesh. A second-year degree student, she had given him money after pawning her gold ornaments. Things, however, took an ugly turn after she demanded the jewellery back. The girl alleged that she was asked to reach Kollam, which she now suspected was part of a plan to eliminate her.
Once in Kollam, she could not find Rajesh but met a woman, Shalini, who claimed to be his friend. The woman took the girl to a remote place in an autorickshaw, where the latter was gang-raped by five men. Two days later, Rajesh arrived, and raped her.
Though she managed to escape, police picked her up based on her parents' complaint.
Investigators were yet to identify the place where the alleged crime had taken place.
