A woman was raped on the Cal State Northridge campus last week — the second rape reported in October at the University Park Apartments, authorities said.
The most recent incident was reported at 10:52 p.m. Oct. 28, authorities said, while the crime occurred sometime between 10 p.m. Oct. 27 and 9 a.m. Oct. 28.
A woman was raped by a man in each incident, and alcohol was involved in both, said Christina Villalobos, a spokeswoman for CSUN’s Department of Police Services.
According to the crime log, “a suspect known to the victim sexually assaulted the victim after attending a party together.”
Villalobos said the cases remain under investigation and there is limited information that could be released on the campus’ crime log.
There was not going to be a larger news release that goes out to the campus community about the latest rape because it occurred between people who knew each other, Villalobos said.
“The suspect was known to the victim,” Villalobos said. “This is not an occurrence of a stranger sex assault. They met at a party. In that situation, where they know each other, it’s not a risk to the community in general.”
The earlier rape was reported on Oct. 12 and took place sometime between 11 p.m. Sept. 29 and 3 a.m. Sept. 30.
Like the Oct. 28 incident, the report says “a suspect known to the victim sexually assaulted the victim after attending a party together.”
“That’s a very similar circumstance,” Villalobos said of the September crime.
Villalobos said it was not uncommon for a rape to be reported much later than the actual incident.
“Sometimes crimes are reported months and years later,” Villalobos said. “It’s not unusual.”
School officials are not required to release the gender of the people involved, she said.
“We have to be careful of what is released so we don’t put anything out there that would identify who the victim is,” Villalobos said.
