LUCKNOW: A 10-year-old class V girl was raped and murdered in Gosainganj police station area on Saturday morning. Police have detained one youth in connection with the incident
According to police, the victim lived with her maternal grandfather and family in a village of Gosainganj and studied at a state government run school in the area. She left home to around 7.30 am on Saturday but never returned.
Her parents went out to look for her and when they could not find her they sought the help of villagers and everyone searched in the fields towards which she had gone. Later, they found her body lying in a field and informed the police.
Initially, police tried to hush up the case and sought names of persons who could be suspected. After the family expressed doubts over a local youth, police detained.
Lucknow SSP Manzil Saini said abrasions are visible on the body and her clothes were partly removed, hinting at sexual assault. Autopsy report is waited to confirm if the girl had been raped.
Police said a case of rape, murder and attempt to destroy evidence had been registered against the accused, who is a minor. The police said section 35 of POCSO act was invoked against the miscreant.
