The Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Bhavnagar district police and the Gujarat Government to initiate tangible action against four persons, who had raped and murdered a 50-year-old woman in Mandvi village on December 1
A PAAS convener, Dilip Sabva said “It is nearly a fortnight since the woman was raped and killed. Still there is no trace of the accused. When dalits were flogged in Una, all political parties had rushed to visit the victim’s family. However, in this case, no one has cared to inquire about the case.”
A member of PAAS as well as of Gujarat Aam Aadmi Party, Vandana Patel, said that the offenders are on the run but police did not initiate any action to detain them. She said “I have visited the village on Sunday and found that this rape case is not the only one, but there are other cases which did not come to light. Drunkards come every day to the village and harass the women, but police have not initiated any action to maintain law and order.”
Previously on Saturday, PAAS convener Hardik Patel issued a statement on the rape and murder case comparing the case with delhi’s Nirbhaya rape case.
“This is a blow to self-respect of every Gujarati. Should we not take to the roads for justice, like people in Delhi did during Nirbhaya incident?” asked Hardik Patel.
The statement further said “On December 1, the woman and her husband, residents of Mandavi village in Gariyadhar taluka of Bhavnagar, had finished the work in their farm and she started walking towards her house while her husband went to repair their bike’s punctured tyre. However, when he returned home, he found his wife missing. Around 8 pm that her body was found near the lake in the village.”
