VADODARA: A 35-year-old married woman from Maharashtra was gang-raped by two auto-rickshaw drivers in Navayard. Police have arrested one person in whose house the crime was committed.
The police said the woman had boarded a train from Bandra Terminus and had bought ticket for Surendranagar. However, she got down at Vadodara railway station at 11pm on Saturday. Two auto-rickshaw drivers approached her when she walked out of the station and took her to a house in Navayard where they committed the crime. The police said the woman appears to be suffering from some mental disorder.
After raping her, the duo dropped her near state transport (ST) bus stand at around 2am. "On seeing the condition of the woman, a person informed Abhyam helpline through which the police came to know about the case," said Dr Leena Patil, deputy commissioner of police, Zone I. The woman told the cops that she was going to Jamnagar. In her complaint, she told the police that the two accused were around 35-40 years of age and a little plump.
Patil said these teams conducted thorough questioning of autorickshaw drivers who wait outside the railway station during the night hours. On the basis of the gathered information, the cops arrested the person in whose house the crime was committed at Khatkiwad of Navayard.
The police said they have identified the two main accused too, but refused to divulge their details.
The police also checked footage of the CCTV cameras inside the railway station on the basis of which they could identify the time when the woman was picked and dropped by the accused auto-rickshaw drivers.
The woman was taken to SSG Hospital on Sunday for a medical check-up. Cops said the woman did not have any injury marks on her body.
