On November 16, approximately 150 women in Sittwe demonstrated calling for stronger punishments and the death sentence. On November 25, approximately 200 women in Dawei and Taunggyi demonstrated. Mandalay residents protested on November 26, Yangon on November 27 and Magway on November 29.
On November 14, a five-year-old girl was reportedly raped in Rakhine State and a man attempted to rape a seven-year-old girl in Sagaing Region.
On November 17, a nine-year-old girl was gang raped and murdered in Kawthaung, Tanintharyi Region. On November 27, a man allegedly raped a seven-year-old boy and four-year-old girl in Mandalay. A girl, 12, and a boy endured an attempted raped in Rakhine State on November 28.
The Child Law 1993 does not prescribe an offence and punishment for child rape. On November 28, Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye said a bill was being proposed to enforce a minimum jail term of 10 years. The bill has been sent to the Attorney General's Office.
There were reportedly 461 child rapes out of 760 cases from January to September.
