Southafrican serial rapist sentenced to 4 life terms imprisonment
On 15 December 2016, Pietermaritzburg High Court convicted and sentenced Sandile Xulu (24) to a total of four life imprisonment and 60 years for four counts of rape and robbery that he committed at Empangeni
On 24 October 2013, at Richards Bay, a 20-year-old victim was approached by the accused when he grabbed her to the nearby bushes where he repeatedly raped her at knifepoint. Xulu also robbed the victim of her cell phones and bank cards. The accused continued with his evil deeds and was linked to another three charges of rape and robbery he committed in 2014 and 2015. His modus operandi was to lure his victims by promising them jobs via social networks. He was sentenced to four life terms imprisonment and 15 years each for four counts of robbery. The cases of rape and robbery were opened at Empangeni and Richards Bay Police station. The investigation was conducted by the Empangeni Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation that to led to the arrest of the accused on 26 July 2015.
"We will continue to arrest and sentence those who are raping our kids instead of protecting them, we will ensure that the women and children are safe during festive season. We are warning the community not to trust people who are promising them jobs via social networks. They must apply for the advertised posts through the correct channels, "said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
