NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville man has been found guilty of raping two young girls in his care for several years.
Rodney Robinson was found guilty of five counts of aggravated sexual battery, four counts of rape of a child, one count of attempted rape of a child, two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure, and two counts of rape.
The District Attorney General’s Office said the victims lived with Robinson and his wife for eight years and the abuse occurred from the time the girls were 10 until they were removed from the home at the age of 14.
“They were finally removed from the home because the defendant whipped one of the victims with a belt and those marks were seen by her friend at school who reported it to a teacher,” Assistant District Attorney Megan King said.
King said in a media release that the girls thought this behavior was normal so they didn’t disclose it until one of the victims was given an examination at Vanderbilt.
Robinson faces a minimum of 25 years in prison and is not eligible for probation.

A “manipulative predator” who raped a 16-year-old girl in Leeds after plying her with alcohol has been jailed

Julian Manners, of Louis Street, Chapeltown, was considered a danger to the public and handed an extended sentence totalling 15 years today (Monday) after committing the rape last year.

Leeds Crown Court heard that Manners, 31, got a taxi on July 9 to the Harehills home of a 22-year-old woman, whom he had not met before but had been exchanging messages with on social media

Prosecutor Timothy Capstick said he brought alcohol to the home where the woman’s sister, the victim, was also staying and poured drinks for them. Mr Capstick said: “At one point the older sister left the house to be sick and passed out on the couch.” After the older sister passed out intoxicated, Manners, who appeared via video link from HMP Leeds, continued to ply the 16-year-old with alcohol, tipping her head back to pour drink into her mouth

The court was told he raped her while she was intoxicated, unable to resist or give consent. Judge Guy Kearl QC said: “You were asking her what you were going to get for giving her the alcohol. “She became less and less able to look after herself. When she was completely unable to offer resistance signal consent, you raped her as she passed in and out of consciousness.”

In a victim impact statement, the 16-year-old described how she now suffers with anxiety, depression and nightmares. Susannah Proctor, mitigating, said: "He does accept that he took advantage of the victim. It was not planned, prolonged and involved no form of violence.”

Manners committed the rape while on licence for an offence in 2013 of sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl, the court heard. He was living with his grandmother at the time of the offence last year and was arrested on July 20 but initially denied the offence. The court was told Manners pleaded guilty during the trial on January 10 to rape involving a 16-year-old child.

Passing sentence, Judge Kearl said: "By your behaviour of attending at a property where there were two females, whom you had never met, plying them with alcohol and then having intercourse with one of them aged 16 - when she was incapable of resisting or compliance - indicates a reckless, risk-taking, manipulative and predatory behaviour." He added: “You are in my judgement, given all that I know about you, a high-risk to both the public and children.”

Judge Kearl said Manners must serve a custodial sentence of nine years, followed by an extended period on licence for six years. He will also be made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention order.

A former Champaign County man will spend at least 30 years in prison after he was sentenced for the rape of three children he knew.
Benjie Van Winkle, 43, was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison in Champaign County Common Pleas Court on Monday for a rape charge. He’d already been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in Miami County for rape charges involving two other children he knew, Champaign County Prosecutor Kevin Talebi said.
The three children had been sexually abused for a number of years and number of incidents,” he said.
All of the children were younger than 13 at the time of the abuse.
The father of the children in Miami County reported the sexual abuse to children’s services, Talebi said, which led investigators in Champaign County to the third victim.
“I don’t believe he showed any genuine remorse for his conduct,” he said.
Van Winkle apologized in court Monday when he made a statement to Champaign County Judge Nick Selvaggio.
“I cannot take back, you know, the pain mentally and physically that I’ve caused,” Van Winkle said. “And people keep saying that I didn’t show remorse, and I’ve shown remorse every day since this has happened. I’ve cried, I’ve prayed, I’ve turned my life over to God.”
He’s apologized to the victims, he said, and sought help in prison.
“I hope that they can move on and be better people than I was,” he said of the victims and their families.
He told the judge the sexual abuse of the Champaign County victim was a form of punishment when other things didn’t work, but denied that was the motive behind the abuse of the children in Miami County.
“I don’t know why the thought popped into my head of what I did,” he said.
Talebi called the crimes committed by Van Winkle horrifying.
“He got the punishment that he deserved,” he said.
Van Winkle won’t be eligible for release for 30 years, Talebi said. He’s also been classified as a Tier III sex offender and if he is released, he’ll be required to register in his county of residence for life.

A 26-YEAR-OLD Harare man, who is accused of raping his then five-year-old sister from 2012 to date, yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
The man, whose identity has been withheld in order to protect the juvenile, was remanded in custody to Friday by Harare magistrate, Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, after being advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The State alleges that sometime in 2012, but on dates unknown to the prosecutor, the suspect was at home with the girl when he took her to her mother’s bedroom and raped her once.
The State alleges the suspect again raped the minor on numerous occasions whenever their parents were away.

The matter came to light in January this year when the girl’s teacher noticed that she was always sad and that she would sometimes absent herself from school.
It is alleged the teacher called her parents and a school counsellor, leading to revelations of the alleged abuse.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.

GLASGOW – A Barren County man was sentenced recently to 20 years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, both with a victim younger than 12 years old.
Timothy Daniel Jones, 31, of Glasgow was originally indicted on those charges, each considered as a “continuing course of conduct” in July, plus a count of leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance as well as operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol which impairs one's driving ability, first offense, with aggravators.
The sexual offenses took place between summer 2015 and February 2016, according to court documents.
According to the citation from his June 16 arrest, a Barren County sheriff's deputy was responding to a call about a dispute Jones had left, intoxicated, with three firearms in his possession, and around the same time that evening, dispatch received calls about a vehicle that was missing a back tire being driven carelessly on an intersecting road.
As he approached the deputy's car, Jones stopped the vehicle he was driving and got out with his hands up, stating he wanted to turn himself in, according to the deputy's account on the citation, and Jones had a strong smell of alcohol and blood-shot eyes and was unable to stand on his feet. The citation states that his breath test indicated his blood alcohol level was 0.187, more than twice the legal threshold to be considered driving under the influence. After he was read his rights, according to the citation, he advised the deputy that he'd had sex with the victim approximately six months earlier, and the dispute had been with that child's parent.
The Glasgow Daily Times generally does not identify victims of sexual assaults or abuse.
Jones pleaded not guilty initially in court, but, with an attorney's advice, later changed his plea to guilty in October; his final sentencing was Feb. 6, according to court documents.
His penalties were 20 years, a $1,000 fine plus costs, and abiding by the conditions of being a sexual offender – undergoing a sexual offender risk assessment and registering as a sex offender – for the rape charge; 10 years on the sexual abuse charge; 12 months on the charge related to leaving the scene of an accident; and 30 days, $500 fine, $375 service fee, 90 days license suspension, 90 days alcohol/substance abuse counseling and 48 hours of community service on the DUI charge, according to the Final Judgment document, signed by Circuit Judge John T. Alexander, in his case file. All of the time was to be served concurrently, for a total of 20 years, and he has to serve 85 percent of that before he can be eligible for parole. He also had to forfeit two of the firearms, and the other was returned to another person.
“We're pleased that he took responsibility for those crimes without having to put the victim through trial,” said Resa Gardner, the assistant commonwealth's attorney who handled the case.
