A serial rapist who savagely attacked a woman in Victoria Park on his own wedding day is facing jail – for the second time.

Derry McCann, 28, of Portland Court in St Peter’s Way, off Kingsland Road, Haggerston, attacked his victim in the early hours of January 13.
He played “mind games” with her before carrying out the rape, photographing her, and stealing her bra and mobile phone. Just hours later he married his pregnant fiancée.
McCann’s victim was walking home in Grove Road when he dragged her into bushes and raped her, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard today.
Dressed in a grey hoodie and with a ginger beard, McCann muttered guilty pleas three counts of rape, one count of assault by penetration and one count of robbery.
He had only recently been freed from jail after spending several years behind bars for an attack in 2006. McCann, then 18, had been jailed for life but was freed after his minimum term of nine years was cut at an appeal.
“A little after midnight the victim was walking the short distance home after socialising with friends,” prosecutor Kate Bex told the court.
She was not far from home, Ms Bex added, having walked around the park rather than through the middle as she deemed it too dangerous.
“Within feet of the [park] exit,” she said, “the defendant grabbed her and pulled her off the park and began a sustained and systematic attack.”
McCann had an “unusual” conversation with his victim as he attacker her, Ms Bex told the court. It was “best described as mind games and an attempt to control her – asking the victim what she thought he was going to do to her before carrying out the attacks that he did.
“He behaved oddly in other respects: interaction concerning the condom he used when penetrating her and ejaculating and the items of her property culminating in the robbery, [and the] theft of her mobile phone and a piece of her underwear.”
Judge Martyn Zeidman told McCann: “You have done the most terrible things. You will be going to prison, as you understand, for a very, very long time.”
He will be sentenced on April 28. Judge Zeidman ordered a psychiatric report to be completed.
Det Insp Lee Davison from the Met’s sexual offences, exploitation and child abuse command said: “This man is a vicious predator and an extreme danger to woman.
He preyed on his victim and set out to degrade her physically and psychologically.
“No one should have to endure what she was forced to go through and I want to formally pay tribute to her courage and determination. It is through her bravery we have been able to bring McCann to justice.”
Andrew Held from the Crown Prosecution Service added: “This was a terrifying, violent and prolonged attack involving rapes committed by a man intent on inflicting fear and psychological suffering.
“The strong prosecution case which led to today’s guilty pleas included victim testimony, an ID parade, CCTV footage, and bad character evidence based on a similar rape committed by McCann in 2006.
“I would like to thank McCann’s victim for her courage in helping bring this prosecution and hope his conviction provides some sense of justice for her.”

Joseph Glenn Beaty, accused of a series of rapes dating to 2009, was "a man with a plan, a pattern, the intent to prey upon the weak, the vulnerable and the imperfect," prosecutor Amy Derrick said in a Dallas courtroom Friday.

After less than an hour of deliberations, a jury sentenced the 42-year-old Irving man to life in prison.
Arrested in 2015, Beaty has been linked to four sexual assaults as authorities tested DNA evidence from backlogged rape kits. He is the first person convicted through the Dallas Police Department's testing of cold-case rape kits.
In a 2014 case, Beaty said he had a "problem with prostitutes" and that the sex was consensual — but there had been a disagreement over the payment.
His defense attorney, Jasmine Crockett, echoed that in her closing argument Friday, saying that "blind ambition combined with a prostitution addiction does not lead to a conviction."

Crockett previously told The Dallas Morning News that DNA evidence could only place her client with another person, not prove whether an encounter was consensual or not.

Beaty was released from the Dallas County Jail in mid-January while he was awaiting trial after an appellate court ruled that he was impoverished and his bail was too high.
But an Irving SWAT team arrested him two days later, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported, over accusations that he was tampering with his electronic-monitoring system and walking around his neighborhood in violation of his house arrest.

This is serial rapist Paul Moore roaming the streets of the capital after being granted bail again as he awaits sentencing for sexually assaulting a woman.
Moore’s continuing presence in the Mountjoy Square area has caused such concern that local residents recently tried unsuccessfully to buy him out of the apartment he owns.
Despite the fact he was due to be sentenced last week for yet another sex assault, Moore (51) remains on bail and is spending his days walking around the north-inner city.
On Monday, Moore – who has six convictions for separate sex attacks – was granted bail again in Dublin Circuit Court because his case manager was out of the jurisdiction.
He had been originally bailed on February 21.
A source told the Herald that a group of residents in the area were so concerned by Moore’s presence that they approached a third party and offered to buy the apartment he owns in Mountjoy Square.

Moore is believed to have bought the property in the 1990s with compensation he was awarded following a traffic accident.
However, his presence in the city centre is causing fear among locals as a number of his attacks have occurred close to, or in, his apartment.
In 2001, he raped a woman after inviting her back to his flat following a night out.
He was sentenced to six years in 2003 for the rape but this was increased to 10 years by the Court of Criminal Appeal because of the “terrifying amount of violence” he inflicted.
Before he assaulted the woman, Moore forced her to sign a note saying: “I have consented to everything that happened between me and Paul Moore tonight.”
A source told the Herald that residents had repeatedly approached gardai about getting Moore banned from the apartment block but they had been told they were powerless to act.
In an effort to rid themselves of the dangerous offender, they clubbed together to buy him out, but their offer was not accepted after a third party was approached on the matter.
In his latest case, Moore assaulted an au pair in 2014 as she was travelling home from college on the Dart.
Gardai examined CCTV of the incident but Moore was not recognised until two years later.
In the meantime, he sexually assaulted two women in separate incidents in the city centre after stopping them in the street and asking them for a cigarette.
He stopped one woman in Gardiner Street – close to his home – on January 21, 2015, and the second at St Mary’s Place North, about 500 metres from his door, on May 8, 2015.
In 2015, he was jailed for 15 months for these attacks, with Judge Martin Nolan noting that he “has a predisposition to violence towards women, which manifests as rape and sexual assault”.
Moore’s first conviction for raping a woman was in 1995, for which he received seven years. Prior to 1995, he had been convicted twice for two separate incidents of indecent assault.
In the most recent case, Moore pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to sexually assaulting the woman on the southside Dart on August 28, 2014.
The court heard evidence that Moore sat near the au pair and started making small talk. He then moved to the seat beside her and began commenting on her clothes.
Moore had a toy turtle in his hand, which he said he found on the ground. He said he was looking for a child to give it to.
He told her: “You probably think I’m crazy” and began to touch her breasts and then pulled at her trousers. He stopped when another passenger sat near them.
The gardai circulated CCTV of the incident but no one recognised Moore. However, when it did so again in 2016, Moore was recognised and arrested. He accepted it was him on the CCTV but said he could not remember the incident.
Moore’s defence counsel said he lived a very isolated life and had been disowned by his family and had spent a significant portion of his life in prison and there were conflicting opinions on what caused Moore to commit these crimes.
One psychiatric report blamed a head injury he received in 1982, while another blamed an “organic personality disorder”.
Judge Melanie Greally said Moore’s inability to desist from offending, no matter what punishment was imposed, was a matter of real concern to the court. She said any sentence would have to “maximise the ability of the services to supervise Moore”.
Moore is due to be sentenced next Monday.

Serial rapist on streets of Dublin after being bailed a second time Conor Feehan  March 2 2017

A serial sex beast who raped a Paisley schoolgirl has been back in the dock.
Vile Thomas McArthur — who was also involved in a horrific gang rape of another teenager — broke the strict conditions of his release from a 10-year prison stretch.
Originally from Ferguslie Park, the 58-year-old has a shocking record of sexual violence against very young women, dating back to the early 1980s.
Now living in Johnstone and suffering from prostate cancer, he cut a frail and grizzled figure when he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court charged with flouting the terms of the Sex Offenders’ Act.
McArthur was just 23 when he was part of a gang of six — four men and two women — involved in the kidnapping, beating and raping of a 17-year-old girl at a house in Paisley.
He was caged for four years at the High Court in Glasgow.
His five co-accused were sentenced to a total of 20 years for their part in the attack.
Then, in 2001, McArthur struck again, pouncing on a 15-year-old girl as she slept and raping her.
The traumatised teenager was forced to relive the terrifying ordeal at the High Court in Paisley in 2003, where the then 45-year-old monster was later found guilty and jailed for 10 years.
McArthur, now of Rankine Street, Johnstone, agreed to abide by the terms of his the Sex Offenders’ Act when he was eventually released from prison.
However, the court heard this week that he failed to inform the police within three days of setting up a new bank account, a strict condition of his release under the legislation.
He pleaded guilty to possessing the bank card between July 1, 2016 and December 14, 2016 at his address and at Mill Street police office in Paisley, where he failed to comply with his release order, without a reasonable excuse.
Fiscal depute Margaret McCallum told the court: “Because of the conviction, the accused is required to comply with notification requirements, one of which is the requirement to register bank account details within three days of any change of details.
“Two officers visited his home address on December 14, 2016, and at the time he was asked if there was any change in his financial circumstances.
“He presented a new RBS debit card dated from July 2016. The officers reminded him the notification required him to register it within three days of any change in his circumstances.
“The accused replied he wasn’t aware he hadn’t done this. Police informed him the matter was being reported.”
His defence agent Kirsty McGeehan said McArthur, who was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, admitted he should have been aware of his legal requirements, but he accepted his responsibility with an early plea of guilty.
But McArthur was warned that breaking terms of his release could have led to a jail stretch.
Sheriff Tom McCartney said: “Notification requirements you are subject to are very important and failure to comply with them is a serious matter, which very often results in a prison sentence.
“Because you have accepted responsibility for this at the earliest opportunity, I will not do that.”
He fined McArthur £400, reduced from £600, because he admitted his guilt early on in the case.

Serial sex beast involved in horrific gang rape of Paisley teen back in dock RON MOORE 6 MAR 2017

CAPE TOWN – A Northern Cape serial rapist will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being found guilty of attacking three teenagers.
Andre Van Wyk - has been dubbed the "Bicycle rapist" - as he would follow his victims on a bicycle, attack them with a knife and rape them multiple times.
The 19-year-old was given four life sentences and four 15-year jail terms in the Upington High Court earlier this week.
Van Wyk was also sentenced to two five-year jail terms for assaulting and robbing his victims.
These sentences will run concurrently with the four life sentences.
The 19-year-old stalked young women, raped and robbed them of their belongings between 2014 and 2015.
He was linked to the crimes through DNA evidence and eventually pleaded guilty to his crimes in court.
Police say the court classified him as a "serial rapist" due to the nature of his offences.
Upington detectives have been praised for tracking Van Wyk down and ensuring his conviction.

A man has been arrested in connection with at least 19 rape cases in the Inanda, Phoenix and Verulam areas - north of Durban.

Police say the suspect is due in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court soon.
He was nabbed in the Amaoti area in the early hours of this morning.
Officers say the suspect has been linked by DNA evidence to cases dating back to 2011.
The Inanda Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit had gathered information on the man's movements before an operation - leading to his arrest - was initiated.

A 56-year-old man identified as ‘Old Soldier’, has been arrested by operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command for allegedly engaging in the serial rape of a 13-year-old teenager.

Two others who knew about the matter, but were trying to cover up for the suspect and prevent the crime from being reported to the Akenfa Divisional Police Station, were also nabbed along with him.
According to some witnesses, old soldier had unlawful and repeated carnal knowledge of the young girl, along the Akenfa area of Yenagoa Local Government council of the state, where he is said to reside.
The suspect, now in police custody, told the police that the teenager was betrothed to him by the parents of the girl, saying he had not committed any offence.
Two organisations handling the case, the Girl Child Advocacy Group Operation Rescue and the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), told journalists in Yenagoa that the victim, Miss Idesimi James, from Okoloba area of the state, was heard screaming occasionally from the house of the suspected rapist; a situation the state Coordinator of Operation Rescue, Elizabeth Egbe, described as shocking.
It was also learnt that the suspect had earlier told his landlord that the little girl was his daughter when she was first brought to live with him.
“The landlord of the suspect, heard the 13-year-old girl screaming and peeped to inquire what was happening and discovered that the man was having sexual intercourse with a child he claimed was put in his custody as a daughter.
“On the second occasion that he heard the scream again, he drew the attention of the neighbors and the suspect was arrested in the act,” she said.
Egbe added that the members of the two advocacy groups were thereafter called in to rescue the child, noting that they are now currently handling the matter.

Speaking on the development, the Chairperson of FIDA, Dise Ogbise-Erhisere, has now assured the public that her organisation would ensure that the suspect is charged to court promptly for prosecution.

A 38-year-old man alleged to have been an accomplice in a series of rapes in Alexandra planned to plead guilty to his crimes‚ the South Gauteng High Court heard on Monday.

Sija Mabitsela‚ who faces 76 charges ranging from rape to assault and robbery‚ has already handed in a plea agreement.
Dressed in a blue jacket and striped scarf‚ Mabitsela stood in the dock alongside several other accused who were waiting for their matters to be heard.
His matter was postponed to March 15 for his plea to be read into the record.
Mabitsela‚ who is reported to be a sangoma‚ had become known as the 'balaclava serial rapist' because he is said to have always covered his face with a balaclava during his rapes.
The patterns were picked up in 2013 after the Alexandra Kidz Clinic noticed there were numerous rape cases they were dealing with involving teenage girls aged 13 to 16.
The girls claimed to have been raped by a balaclava-clad man.
According to Women and Men Against Child Abuse‚ Mabitsela recruited Xaniseka Mkansi to join his escapades in 2014 and both operated in the Alexandra.
"The men used a gunshot signal after they had tracked down a victim. They would both rape the victim‚" WMCA said in a statement.
"They compelled male victims to have sex with their female companions regardless of the relation. They would then attack the men and rob both of their possessions."
DNA evidence has linked both men to the rapes. Mkansi however has pleaded not guilty.
He returns to court on Tuesday to face his charges.
